The purpose of this meditation is to generate a strong feeling of reliance upon our Spiritual Guide, and then to reflect on this in light of the advantages of cherishing others.
I began with breathing meditation, and once my mind was settled, I moved on to the main meditation.
I started by simply thinking about how I need someone to show me what to do with my life. I need to have someone who can tell me what I should practise and what I should abandon. My guru is Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, and I imagined him before me. I imagined opening the blinds on a window between us, and his wisdom light streaming into my body and mind, blessing them and filling me with inspiring energy. I focused on this idea of opening up to him, and through this reliance, receiving his blessings. It felt wonderful.
After a while I thought about what this means in light of the advantages of cherishing others.
It seemed to me that all the advantages I can experience from cherishing others begin with my Spiritual Guide, because he is the one who is guiding me and showing me what I need to do. All these advantages come about because of him. With this feeling of becoming closer to my Spiritual Guide, I returned to the feeling of receiving his blessings – the strength of which were directly proportional to the strength of my reliance upon him.
Dedication
May all living beings receive the inspiring blessings of their Spiritual Guide, and through this good fortune, quickly attain the state of a Buddha for the benefit of all.
Practice in the Meditation Break
I will try to always rely upon my Spiritual Guide in all my actions.
