The purpose of this meditation was to generate the strong wish to cherish others.
I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation and then thought about how all the happiness in the world comes from wishing others to be happy. I need to become convinced that this is the case. I thought about how my actions are the causes of my future experiences. If I look after others now, it is the cause for them to look after me in the future. If I give to others now, it is the cause for them to give to me in the future, and if I cherish others now, it is the cause of happiness for me both now and in the future.
I set aside all doubt and focused on the belief that cherishing others is the method to attain happiness, and held it in my attention for the rest of the session.
May all living beings cherish others purely.
