The purpose of this meditation is to train our mind in stability so as to allow the development of the realisation of emptiness, and then to meditate on this stability in light of the fact that all living beings are my mother.

I began with breathing meditation, and then simply kept that continuum of stillness for as long as possible. I kept returning my mind to the breath each time it wandered for the whole meditation.

After a while I decided to examine what this stillness means in light of the fact that all living beings are my mother. I decided that liberation and enlightenment both depend on the realisation of emptiness, which in turn depends on the realisation of tranquil abiding. To help all my mothers I must attain enlightenment and so I have to develop tranquil abiding.  I returned to my practice of training the mind for the sake of all mother beings, and stayed with it for the rest of the meditation.

Dedication

May all living beings experience the exquisite happiness of tranquil abiding, and quickly become Buddhas for the benefit of all.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to remain focused and ‘in the moment’ for the rest of the day.
