The purpose of this meditation is to generate the very strong wish to become a Buddha for the sake of all living beings, and then to meditate on this wish in light of the advantages of cherishing others.

I began by doing a simple breathing meditation, and when my mind was focused, I moved on to the main meditation.

I started by thinking about how I have a precious human life which will end all too soon. What am I going to do with this life? Surely I must make the best use of it. I am so fortunate that I have the means to make my life meaningful by becoming a Buddha, capable of a completely pure experience and able to help all other living beings.

With this in mind, I developed the strong wish to attain this state and focused on this wish for a while.

Following this, I thought about what this means in light of the advantages of cherishing others.

It seemed to me that Bodhichitta and Buddhahood were advantages stemming directly from cherishing others. With this in mind I brought my mind back to the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all, and tried to keep my attention on this feeling for the rest of the meditation.

Dedication

May all living beings actualise their full potential as human beings, and become enlightened quickly for the benefit of all.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to keep the wish to become a Buddha for the sake of all living beings fresh and alive in my heart.
