The purpose of this meditation is to generate a love of cherishing others.

I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation, and then reminded myself of the three points of contemplation:

  • All living beings have been so kind to me in the past, and continue to be kind to me even now
  • Just like me, all living beings sincerely wish to be happy, and free from suffering
  • I am only one person, whereas all living beings are countless, therefore rather than working just for my own solitary happiness, I should use my effort to make others happy too.

I contemplated these points and it seemed to me that I needed to become familiar with the idea that my happiness does not come from my own attainment of happiness, but through my effort in helping others to be happy. This is an inexhaustible source of happiness.

I focused on this feeling of being happy through cherishing others, and kept it as the object of my meditation.

May all living beings be happy, and may we all attain perfect happiness for the benefit of all.

Practice in the Mediation Break

I will try to remember my wish to cherish others, and that it is the cause of happiness for all living beings.
