The purpose of this meditation was to generate Great Compassion by remembering the kindness of all living beings.

I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation, and then remembered the great kindness of all my kind mothers. They cared for me constantly, without failing me. They gave it all up for me.

I thought about how kind these living beings were, and I naturally developed the wish that they should be free from their suffering – how could I wish otherwise? I focused on this wish for the rest of the meditation.


May all living beings see the kindness of others, and strive to repay that kindness through Great Compassion.
