The purpose of this meditation is tore organise the emptiness of the body.

I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation, and the thought about the body that normally appears to me. It appears real, solid and partless. It is one thing. I focused on it and the decided to try and find it. I tried to keep the view that I really expected to find it.

I looked among its parts and then the collection of its parts. It was not there. I looked separate from its parts. It was not there. This body I see all the time cannot be found. I thought about how the body is so like a mirage, like an illusion. I see it clearly, but it is not real – it has no inherent existence.

I focused on seeing my body but believing that it was an illusion. I felt quite remote and uninvolved with my body. Although I could see it, I knew it did not exist in the way it appeared. I felt free and peaceful, and I focused on this feeling for the rest of the meditation.

May we all realise the emptiness of inherent existence of all phenomena.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to maintain the belief that all phenomena lack inherent existence.
