The purpose of this meditation is to generate a strong feeling for the disadvantages of self cherishing.

I began with the appropriate preparations for meditation, and then contemplated how the self I normally perceive does not exist at all. How foolish to be so protective and defensive of it! I focused on how this concern for my imaginary self causes me to become tight and uncomfortable. How it robs me of my ease! I concentrated on this for the rest of the session.
