The purpose of this meditation is to become familiar with the true nature of phenomena.

I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation, and then settled to watch my mind. As I did so, a car passed by outside and I heard the noise it made. The noise grew and then faded.

I asked myself ‘where is this noise?’ It came from nowhere and it faded into nothing it was there briefly but is now gone. There was no solid, independent noise separate from everything else. There was an appearance of noise, but nothing other than appearance.

I let my mind mix with this thought of there being a mere appearance, with absolutely nothing behind it. Slowly I let the idea that all phenomena are simply mere appearance enter my mind, and let my mind mix with the emptiness of all phenomena.

I focused on this for the rest of the meditation.

May all living beings see the emptiness of phenomena, and transcend all fear

Practice in the Meditation Break

I shall try to maintain the awareness of the lack if inherent existence of all phenomena.
