The purpose of this meditation is to generate the strong wish to overcome our delusions of self-cherishing.

MANJUSHRI STATUE AThere are three levels of abandoning our self-cherishing delusions. Firstly we can become so mindful that we recognise then they are about to arise, and we skilfully apply the opponent virtuous mind.

The second level is to be so familiar with virtuous minds that they do not arise in our minds. The third level is to abandon even the imprints of delusions.

But to begin with, we need to become conscious of our mind all the time. We need to be constantly watching our thoughts with part of our mind, so that we are consciously aware of our thoughts and where they are leading. In meditation we train to become an observer of our mind, and this is a preparation for our real task, which is to be an observer of our mind in the meditation break.

Therefore, I developed the sincere wish to be able to watch and observe my mind at all times, and by doing so, overcome my delusions. I focused on this wish for the rest of the meditation.


May all living beings do battle with their delusions, and vanquish them completely.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to observe my mind, especially if I am feeling tense or unhappy, as this is a perfect breeding ground for delusions to arise.
