The purpose of this meditation is to generate a strong feeling of cherishing others.

I began with the appropriate preparations for meditation and then thought about how we look at others. Instead of cherishing them, we focus on their faults and develop feelings of aversion and pride. In fact living beings have no faults, despite their appearances to the contrary.

This put me in mind of bottles of different coloured glass. Although they look like they contain different coloured water, this is a mistaken point of view. Despite their different appearances, the water they all contain is the same – pure and clear.

I contemplated:

Although living beings appear to have many faults, they are false appearances, and in reality living beings have no faults. Understanding this, there is no reason for me not to cherish others.

I focused on this line of thought and developed a sincere wish to overcome my mistaken views and to cheep dish others sincerely.

May I and all living beings cherish others sincerely.

Practice in the Meditation Break
