The purpose of today’s meditation was to train in tranquil abiding – mental stabilisation

I decided to simply absorb my mind into the stillness at my heart, so after making appropriate preparations I began by relaxing my body one part at a time.

Once my body was relaxed I brought my awareness to my heart and focused on the sensation of my breath filling and emptying. I counted the breaths, not trying to control my mind, but simply focusing on counting. After a while I was filled with a very calm and still feeling, and I left off the breath counting. Now it seemed like I was simply still, not using any effort to maintain the stillness. I abided in that beautiful stillness for the rest of the session – a real highlight for the day.
