The purpose of this meditation is to generate an appreciation of the value of our precious human life, and to develop the strong wish to use it well.

I began with the appropriate preparations for meditation and then started by contemplating:

So many living beings have been born as animals etc, and have no opportunity to practice Dharma. Of those born as humans, only a few live in areas where it is possible to learn and practice Dharma. Of those that do, only a few have the inclination and capacity to learn and practice Dharma. I find myself in this last, tiny category.

I contemplated this and developed a feeling be being in the possession of something very rare and meaningful.

After a while, I then contemplated:

If I use my human life to study and practice Dharma, I can avoid lower rebirth, attain liberation from samsara and attain full enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings.

As I contemplated this, I developed a wonderful feeling of wanting to use my precious human life to attain these realisations. I focused on this feeling for the rest of the meditation.

May all living beings see the value of their precious human life, and make it meaningful.

Practice in the Meditation Break
