To Geshe-la,  I wish you a very happy Birthday /|\.

The purpose of this meditation was to generate a strong feeling of going for refuge to the three precious jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

GeshelaI made the appropriate preparations for meditation and then thought about how under normal circumstances I turn for help to worldly agents. If I have a violent neighbour problem I turn to the police for protection and the resolution of my problem. If I have a medical problem I turn to a medical professional for help. Who do I turn to if I have a happiness and suffering problem? These worldly agents cannot help me with my ultimate wish to attain permanent perfect happiness and to completely avoid all suffering.

Only Buddha can bless my mind. Only Dharma can free my mind. Only my spiritual friends can help me on the path. I thought about these points and I developed a wholehearted wish to make effort to receive the blessings of Buddha, to understand the Dharma and to receive the help of the Sangha. I felt it in my heart and when it was clear, I held it in my attention for as long as I could. It was a lovely, meaningful feeling. It signified that I had entered Buddhism, and that I could begin, travel along and complete the path to enlightenment, which is the very meaning of my human life. How wonderful – how meaningful.

May all living beings enter Buddhism.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to recall my wish to turn to the three jewels for refuge, and to remain within Buddhism.
