The purpose of this meditation is to focus all our determination on the attainment of the ultimate truth of cessation.

In ‘Sutra of the Four Noble Truths’ Buddha says:

You should attain cessations

We need to attain a complete cessation of our suffering – not just the temporary cessations of worldly beings.

I made the appropriate preparations for meditation and then contemplated:

I should not be satisfied with the temporary cessations of this life, which even animals can attain. I need to attain complete freedom from suffering – I need to realise the ultimate truth of cessation – nirvana – though my own experience.

I focused on this wish and made it firm in my mind.

Dedication

May all living beings come to wish to be completely free from all suffering.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will try to maintain the continuum of this wish throughout the day.
