The purpose of this meditation is to generate pure concentration with a motivation of renunciation.

I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation and then started by reminding myself that in order to attain liberation from samaric suffering I need to engage in the three higher trainings of moral discipline, concentration and wisdom. For this meditation I focused on the second training – concentration.

I tried to settle my mind in the feeling of stability, stillness and bliss, and also tried to shut the voice up in my head saying ‘stability… stillness…bliss’. When I eventually managed to focus just on the feeling of stability, stillness and bliss I felt very settled and blissful – trying to keep in mind that this is the mind I need to use to meditate on emptiness.

Dedication

May all living beings develop mental stabilisation.

Practice in the Meditation Break

I will remember my blissful concentration and try to keep some part of it in mind.
