The purpose of this meditation is to generate a wish to engage in virtuous actions.
I began by making the appropriate preparations for meditation and then started my contemplation by recalling my refuge in the Three Jewels. By taking refuge in the Three Jewels I promise to follow their guidance and accept their advice. The most fundamental teaching of Buddha must surely by his explanation of the law of Karma.
This law states that our actions create our experiences. Virtuous actions create pleasant experiences and negative actions create unpleasant experiences.
I resolved to take control of my future experiences by creating virtuous actions now. I also resolved to recognise pleasant experiences as the results of my own past virtuous actions.
I thought about these determinations and kept focused on them for the rest of the meditation.
May all living beings recognise the effects of Karma in their lives.
Practice in the meditation break
I will try to remember my determinations today.
