The purpose of this meditation is to generate a wish to be permanently free from sufferings.
I began by making appropriate preparations for meditation and then brought to mind the idea that our freedoms from suffering are temporary. Even animals can temporarily free themselves from suffering. What I want is to be permanently free from suffering.
I focused on the wish to be permanently free from suffering – to find a permanent cessation of my suffering. It felt like I was facing a huge mountain that I had to climb, but there was no point in being daunted. I want to get to the top, so I need to have the attitude that I will definitely do it. I mentally girded my loins and felt a strong determination to achieve my goal. I focused on this for the rest of the session.
May all living beings attain permanent cessation from suffering.
