As a Mahayana Buddhist, I have promised to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings. This life gives me the perfect opportunity to achieve this aim, but if I let myself be distracted by worldly things, I will run out of time.
Just as summer turns into autumn and nothing can stop these leaves dying, so my life is slowly passing by and nothing can stop my body finally decaying and dying. These leaves remind me of the inevitability of death, and spur me on to attain enlightenment in this very life, because if I allow myself to be distracted from this aim, there is no greater foolishness and no greater loss.
May everyone attain perfect enlightenment.
