We have a mask on a shelf in our house. Masks hide our true identity. When we meet someone in a mask, we do not recognise them.
In the Lamrim teachings we learn that the true identity of all our fellow living beings is our very own kind mother. It is as if everyone else is wearing a mask now, hiding their true identity. And likewise because our appearance has changed so much since we were their child, they do not recognise us.
Can you imagine what it would be like if we all recognised each other?
May we all develop the conviction that all living beings are our mother.
